I've tried to translate the first article from the Brookmer Gjucht in English. This is unfortunately a little bit to difficult for me, so I translated a part of the explanation.

The main objective of the Brookmer right was that the lawyers would maintain legal order throughout the year, they had to remain neutral and they had to treat all people equally. They tried to safeguard this on a legal basis, with all resources they had in that time. The text itself is quite difficult to understand, but its easier when you know that the truth was not found by investigating the legal cases, but by taking the oath from so-called helpers (not always withnesses). The person who had enough 'Helpers' would win the legal case, and by doing so they solved conflicts without war.
