Das Saterfriesische ist eine Sprache, die nur in der Gemeinde Saterland im Landkreis Cloppenburg, Niedersachsen, gesprochen wird. Etwa 2.000 Leute beherrschen das Saterfriesische noch, damit gehört es zu den kleinsten Sprachen Europas. Die Sprache ist eine friesische Sprache, und zwar die einzige verbleibende Variante des Ostfriesischen. Dazu wird Westfriesisch von wenigstens 350.000 Leuten in der niederländischen Provinz Friesland gesprochen, und es gibt an der Nordseeküste Schleswig-Holsteins das Nordfriesische, welches noch von etwa 10.000 Leute gesprochen wird. Alle drei Sprachen sind untereinander nicht zu verstehen.

Saterlandic is a language that is spoken in only a few places, most notably in the Saterland community, Low Saxony, Germany. With about 2,000 speakers it is one of the smallest languages in Europe. Saterlandic is Frisian, and it is the only remaining form of East Frisian. Besides that, West Frisian is spoken in the Dutch province of Frisia by at least 350,000 people, and North Frisian, spoken on the German North Sea coast near the Danish border, has about 10,000 speakers. These three languages are not mutually intelligible.
